It may not run on Windows 7. Windows 7 by default tells you if there is known compatibility isuues with the software. I suggest looking up their website. It probably has info on the latest release of the software.

Unfortunately the software you are trying to use is not designed for windows 7. I also looked and there are no patches etc that would allow you to run it on 7.

well, the simplest way is by either copying the manual to a disk the transferring it that way, or if you have a usb flash drive that will work too. Also you can hook your computer up to the old one through a networking cable and transfer it that way. The only other way I can think of doing this is by placing it on some online back up/storage site and downloading it directly off that.
Difference between vmware and microsoft virtual pc.......?
This is mostly a matter of opinion on the user.
I use VMWare products at work and it has a nice polished look and operation to it, and very few issues.
I did try the Microsoft virtual PC 2004 version and the configuration was a little quirky at first, but in the end you get the same result. I have not seen or tried the newest 2007 version though.
You could try both, I know VMWare supports importing Microsoft Virtual PC drives into VMware products. So you could try one then the other with the same image.
