The erratic pointer in the dell inspiron 1545, is a common fault. The usual cure, is to unistall the driver. Reboot install the driver again. Also check your graphics settings. If that doesnt cure the problem. You will need to overwrite/erase your hard drive do a fresh install.

SOURCE: Dell laptop pointer problem

Hi,
This is a very common problem for most Dells this age.
You can try this repair if you feel comfortable.
Remove the keyboard by removing the power button bar (just gently pry up from the right side working left)
re-insert the mouse cable which is coming from the pad/palm rest. Re-assemble.
Check if all the screws on bottom of the unit are tight, especially around the palm rest area.
Good luck

SOURCE: touchpad is not working correctly. It is touchy.

Sounds like wear on the contacts, if you can try applying a little pressure to the centre of the pad, and it works better, this is the issue. As a first resort, you could try and download the touchpad driver and re-install it, howver, this is a common fault with the touchpad. You may need to have it replaced or possibly cleaned
