In the window with the picture you want to copy, choose Select/All and then Edit/Copy. In the window where you want to put it, create or select the layer into which you want to put it, then choose Edit/Paste. You can then move, scale, and whatever.

Error on startup when trying to open a file
I receive the same error, but only when opening or saving a file while a removable drive is attached to the computer (typically my camera's CF card). Naturally this is annoying when processing new photos. I don't have a solution to the underlying problem, but I do have a workaround for the annoying pop-up message. It involves using Windows Registry Editor, so use at your own risk.1. Start Button -> Run2. Type "regedit" without the quotes3. Proceed through the following entries (double-click each name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Windows4. Locate "ErrorMode" and double-click5. Change the entry for "Value Data" from 0 to 26. Change the entry for "Base" from Hexadecimal to Decimal7. Click "OK"8. Press F5 to refresh the Registry Editor9. Close all windows and restart your computerAgain, this will stop the pop-up messages warning you that there's no disk, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem. If you're comfortable that there's nothing actually wrong with your computer (I am) this will at least make GIMP usable again. Thanks to jamuma on answers.microsoft.com for the original idea.
How to import a word text into gimp ?
It is impossible to import a word document file into GIMP, but it is possible to COPY the text in the document and PASTE it onto a text layer in GIMP. This, unfortunately, destroys the formatting (for instant, tabbed spaces are removed for paragraph beginnings.)Please contact me at div.ceslum@gmail.com if you have any other questions regarding text layers in GIMP.
How to put photo on gimp
To open a photo in GIMP, simply open GIMP and when the blank GIMP Workspace appears, click and drag your picture from wherever it is saved (ie: from your Pictures Folder) into the GIMP workspace.
Coloring only gray
You will need work under RGB mode and add a new layer to coloring there.
Why does my gimp 2.6
First off have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it? or if that doesn't work have you considered reverting the previous version?
Thank you,

How do I upload picture
GIMP is a program saved on your computer, you don't need to upload an image, but to simply open an image using GIMP. There are two ways to accomplish this:
File Browser
While viewing your files, right-click on your image, and place the mouse over "Open With". This will bring up a new menu, from which you select "GIMP Image Editor". If GIMP is not an option, select "Other Application". This will bring up a list of applications for you to choose from. Scroll down until you see "GIMP Image Editor", select it, then click "Open".
From GIMP
The second method is by running GIMP first, then clicking "File", then "Open". From there, find your image, select it, and then click "Open".
I can be more specific or provide screenshots if necessary. Hope this helped!
I created a collage in Shape Collage and saved it
Hi phib577,
You mentioned that you created a collage in Shape Collage and opened it in Gimp, yes you can choose a picture but cannot rotate anymore since the Shape Collage has already formatted the picture as part of the Collage and if Rotated then most likely it will not rotate.
If you want that picture rotated then you will need to use Shape Collage again to be able to edit and rotate the picture that you need to rotate.
I hope that this helps.
Thank you for choosing Fixya,

I just installed gimp 2.6.11,
Try restarting your computer and then try to open the program again.
If that doesn't fix it, Uninstall GIMP and re-download the program and install again.
If the problem persists after that, check CNET downloads for previous versions that would be compatible with your computer.
Can you , and if so, how, edit layers after they
after the layers are merged and the file saved, you can not edit them as individual layers anymore. If you haven't saved yet you might be able to undo until you performed the merge layers action
