I tried both solutions, no effect on the black ink. The calibration failed.

  • domdut Jun 01, 2011

    No it didn't help

  • domdut Jun 02, 2011

I tried the third solution, still no black ink. I can print in color and then the cross lines of a table appear grey-violet. I "cleaned" the print-heads again and asked for an alignement. This operation failes and I have only blue signs on the paper. Thank you for your help.

  • domdut Jun 02, 2011

It is the black cartridge which is new, but the problem occurred with a previous one that I replaced allready. I cannot aligne the printing heads. I did clean the copper contacts. Doesn'i help.

Hello. In order for the problem to be resolved, please follow the steps below (It's you choice if you want to follow all these steps)

First of all, your printer won't work if all the cartridges are not installed.

You have to do a reset of the printer.
While the printer is ON, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet. Wait for like a minute and simply reconnect the power cord to the printer and also to the wall outlet. You have to turn it on if it is not.

Now, check if the error appears again. If it does so, continue to follow these steps

Do a clean of the cartridge contacts by lifting the top cover and locate the ink cartridge indicated in the error message.
Release the latch and then lift it. Simply remove the cartridge.

You will need the following materials:
Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (No tap water, alcohol, or other cleaners)
Lint-free cloth or swab. Eyeglass wipes and coffee filters work well.

Lightly moisten the swab or cloth and squeeze out the excess moisture.

When holding the cartridge, wipe the copper contacts. Replace the cartridge (if you have a new one. If not, put it back) and then close the latch and the printer's top cover.

Now check if the error appears again. If it still displays, replace the cartridge with a new one.

Remember that your
printer will need 15-20 seconds to clear the error and recognize the cartridge after you closed the cover.

I hope it helps! If you have any other questions, leave a reply.

Thank you for using FixYa!

To align the printer from the control panel
    1. Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. Press Setup.
    The Setup menu appears.
    3. Press to highlight Tools, and press OK.
    The Tools menu appears.
    4. Press to highlight Align Printer, and press OK.
    5. The HP All-in-One prints a test page, aligns the print head and calibrates the printer.
    Recycle or discard the page.
A success or failure message appears.
    Press ok.

    Tell me if it works!

This code is an ink system failure.

The ink system has to pump up or be primed to work, if this did not perform completely ink system failure appears. There are three ways to resolve this, the first two may be temporary solution but the third reset will fix the error code in your printer:

Reset number 1
1. While your printer is on.. Remove the cartridges.
2. Wait until the message "Insert Cartridge" display on the control panel.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
4. Wait for 60 seconds.
5. Plug the power cord at the back of the printer...If printer does not automatically on..press the "Power" button.
6. Reinsert the cartridge and close any open doors of the printer.
7. If prompted to Calibrate, do so..
8. Try printing again..

Reset number 2 - Semi reset
1. While your printer is on.. unplug to power cable from the printer.
2. Press and hold the "OK" and "HELP" buttons while you plug the power cable at the back of the printer. Try these steps to reset your printer to default setting.

Reset number 3 - Full reset
1. Press & hold " * " key...(asterisk sign)
2. While holding the " * ", press " # " key and then release both keys..."Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed...
3. Press "1", "2" and "3" to display Support...
4 Press ">" right arrow button and release when "System Config Menu" appear....
5. Press OK buttons twice to clear the error condition
6. Press the CANCEL button as many times to display "Welcome To Photosmart Express" or "Ink System Failure".....
7. The last part is to turn off the printer and unplug at the back...wait for 30 sec, then plug and turn on the printer...if asked, press "OK" to continue and allow the "One Time Ink Initialization" to proceed..After this try to print...

If you need clarification regarding this reset procedure just let me know, The Full reset is recommended best to solve your ink system failure problem.

    Hello!

I'm sorry for my late response.

I would advise that you remove the black ink cartridge and clean the contact surface first with clothe moistened with alcohol. It might be loosing connection from the printer, the reason why cartridge alignment failed.

You can also try to disconnect the printhead assembly if you are able to do it, and manually clean it by flushing it with running water. You can also soak it under a mixture of ammonia and water solution to unclog dried ink from the ink tube.

Just make sure the black ink cartridge has ink left and the ink flows out from its nozzle. If not, maybe its time to replace it!

Hi

Try cold reset

Turn on the printer, disconnect the power cord (while it still on), and then Press and hold the # and 6 buttons. While you're holding those two buttons, reconnect the power cord and keep holding those buttons until the color graphics display becomes blank. Then you can release the buttons. Press on the On button and trying using the printer now, should work fine.

Please rate and make a comment if you find this solution very helpful and might help others as well. Post more comments if you need more help.

    Also try this solution.

Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.

Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.

Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.

Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and the wall socket, then wait for one minute.

Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.

Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.

Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.

Print a Self Test to verify product is functional.

Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print from the computer

    1. Before pulling power plug, depress and hold the # and the 6 and them hold down from here on;

    2. Pull the power plug, I counted to 30 before proceeding, with # and 6 still depressed;

    3. Reinserted the power plug with # AND 6 still held down until machine powers down, about 30 more seconds or so.

    4. Machine eventually resets (turns off). N.B... ALL settings have been erased including fax and wireless, so you need to set them up at the end, below. OK to release # and 6 now.

    5. Press power button. Will come up quickly to the do-not-unplug-power warning, hit OK. Machine will now go through 2 minutes of initialization, mechanical hokey-pokey that hp's do.

    6. If you use wireless, do the wireless setup from NETWORK menu and print the network report which confirms connection as well as that it can print.

    7. Set up FAX if needed.

    Hope this helps...

Please try the 3rd solution, if still not working, it might me the ink cartridge might be defective and needs replacement.

  • Anonymous Jun 01, 2011

Or maybe you are out of ink and on newer printers, it can be only one color that will cause ink failure.Check your ink levels and replace the color that is empty

  • Anonymous Jun 01, 2011

If your printer is out of warranty, try to remove and return back the CMOS battery of your printer. Here is the link for helpful tips. http://www.out-of-warranty.com/ink-syste...

Another solution is power drain the printer. This is done by pulling out the power cable and then holding the on/off button for a minute, then putting the power cable back in and if not working,
try a master reset. Unplug the printer, then pressing the help and ok buttons simultaneously plug it back in.
