The nuances of a programing language if something that is difficult to describe and teach in the limited space here. Teccedguru has several tutorials on VB over on dailymotion that go into detail on the basics of visual basic. The first on is at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xemaup_vb-beginner-1-what-is-vb-and-what-i_tech. There are several tutorial there. Hope this helps.

Visual Basic is a language. You can start using it by downloading software from Microsoft that'll allow you to create software.

I dont know the disadvantages of visual basic.

visual basic, is only a basic programming language, most programs will run on Java script, microsoft is visual basic though, but it uses a lot more complex scripts then, if you like the programing language, go for it, but i did not like it.
Also
VB is undoubtedly the simplest and easiest platform to build major Windows applications. The problem is that like other Microsoft products they change faster than I change my socks.You will certainly need more than just VB. Get into server and client side scripting and the use of VB Net.
