The problem is that when the machine is turned on it does the normal sounding booting beep, after 3 seconds continues to a longer beep, then 3 secs no beep, then 3 secs beep, 3 secs no beep.... continously. Also no video working. Any ideas?

Yes it is due to faulty RAM. Try taking it all out and trying one stick at a time untill you locate the bad one
