That is the perfect solution i set the ps3 mac address in my router and connected perfect.
My son plugged his new PS3 into my TV through the video ports and as soon as the cables were inserted into the ports it sparked and shorted out both the PS3 and the TV.(TV was on surge protector, PS3 was not) Have you had any reports of this on other PS3?
Add the PS3 mac address to your list of non-filtered addresses on your router.
