Error code 6500

On screen instructions say to turn the unit off and then back on. This does nothing. Please advise.

This unit is less than 1 year old. I should be covered for free.

We have exactly the same problem - looks like a trip to the service centre!!

Printer cartridges would not return to the centre to load 2 x new cartridges - perfectly ok and printing 5 minutes before!

Two sheets of paper through a new machine, turned it off, next time on - nothing. Error code 6500 means nothing to the Canon phone techies, "Take it to service center". They did offer to replace my new machine with a refurbished one, not new, because I opened the box!
I bought it through Office Max who basically just laughed.

Hi, I have the same problem. The machine is 2 years old. Is the only option to take it to a service centre?

The 6500 error code is a logic board error code. The PCI Bus error is detected by the ASCI. Sounds like it needs new logic board.

I had the same error code 6500. Could not fix it. I took it in for repair and was told the motherboard was in need of replacement. My printer went bad right after the warranty expired.

Same problem..// using the printer for the last 3 yrs... this is the third time happening .. removed the printer assembly gave it a little cleaning up .. assemble the printer back.. it works like a charm.. i suspect the printer is programmed to give this error after a period of prolonged use or after certain prints eg. 4000/ 5000 prints.. (or some number which im not sure) my error s came exactly after 12 months periods

Ihave the same problem - printing fine one minute - then error code 6500. Turned it on and off as suggested by the on-screen prompt - nothing. Then it says to refer to the manual - I can't even find troubleshooting or errors in the manual!!
