My mouse/pointer pad will not work. I have tried a wireless USB mouse (two different ones...both with brand new batteries). Pointer just sits in the middle of the screen. I have gone to F2 and reset the 'default' settings and still no pointer action.

Did this start happening right after a change in the system? IE: a new installation or update. Reboot pc and tap f2 while it is starting. That should get you to safemode. While there uninstall and new software you added. If you did not install anything new, still go to safe mode and post again what you see.

check the mouse sensitivity settings under control panel.
