Hi there
you can also go to device manager and on your sound device right click on it and select remove than answer yes and the computer will remove the device than restart the computer and once the computer is restarted on your taskbar you will see a found new hardware and it will install the driver for the device than it will tell you that your device is installed and is ready to be used now just go back to sounds and set everything like you want it.
best regards mike

Make sure your mute is not on, your volume is turned up, your speakers are plugged into the correct port, and the sound drivers are installed for your sound device.

  • Turning the mute on and off and volume up
  1. Down by the clock there is something that looks like a little grey speaker. If you left-click does, is the Mute check box, checked?
  2. Make sure the volume bar is up. You should hear a "beep" sound when you click and move the slider up and down. This signifies the volume.
  • Speaker Port
  1. Check that the speakers of your PC are plugged into the correct port. On most motherboards and sound cards, the correct port for the front left and right speakers are usually color coded as a "light green".
  2. Ensure the speakers are plugged into this port.
  • Make sure the drivers for your sound device are installed
  1. Go to Start -> Control Panel
  2. Double-click on "System" (without quotes)
  3. Select the "Hardware" tab (without quotes)
  4. Click the "Device Manager" button (without quotes)
  5. If you see something that mentions sound device and it has a yellow question mark or yellow exclamation mark next to it, the drivers are not installed correctly or there are errors with the device.
  • If the above steps do not work
  1. If the above steps do not work, consider having your PC professional checked out as there are several other things that MAY be wrong with the PC and diagnosing these issues via the internet would be near impossible.
I hope this helps you resolve your problem.
