Ok i have a Foxconn 661 7mi motherboard and i want to upgrade my proccesor to a dual core. my current proccesor is a P4 3.2gh. my reason for upgrading is i wanted to purchase a radeon hd 3850 and most everybody has told me that the card will be bottlenecked by the CPU.
My question is will my motherboard be compatible with a dual core proccesor

If by P4 you mean, "Pentium 4" then your motherboard probably has a Processor Socket 478. The majority of dual-core processors I know of use the LGA-775 or AM2 sockets. So unless you can find a dual core that fits a socket 478 you're out of luck.
Sorry mate, looks like you're going to have to upgrade a lot more than you thought. If you think you can build it yourself you can find the parts cheap here.

You must be absolutely certain. but if you do have a LGA 775 (Not just 775) socket you can buy yourself a dual or even quad-core processor. If you're going for a duel, search for E8400 on this website. That's an incredible processor which gives you plenty of speed for very little wattage consumption. If you also have an advanced cooler you can overclock that thing silly.
You need to make certain your case gets plenty of air, though. If not that processor will heat up and wear itself out quickly. If that means you have to buy a new case, do it! This processor is insane and shouldn't be skipped out on just because of some poor ventilation.
If you still need a recommendation for a motherboard, let me know if you an ATX or Micro-ATX case. I typically recommend ATX motherboards, so if you have a micro-ATX case, you would be buying a new computer case to accomodate that new motherboard.
You might want to upgrade your RAM to 2GB or even 4GB (If supported by your motherboard.)
You will notice the increase from 1GB to 2GB, but from 2GB to 4GB won't be noticeable. If you have the LGA-775 socket as reported by PC-wizard, go ahead and buy the E8400 from this website. However I still recommend you open up your computer just to check if there's actually an open slot for another processor. Seems rather odd that a motherboard would have both an 478 and 775 socket.
Just remember, you have 30 days to return it. Basically risk-free if you don't have an actual LGA-775 slot.

That REALLY is a shame. That processor is dirt cheap (Yeah, still a rather high price, yet the discounts on it make it REALLY cheap.) You can find yourself some other processors at the same website which fit in to the same slots. Just visit the website, navigate to Computer Hardware>CPUs / Processors>(On the top left click:)Processors - Desktops>(In the guided search select:)Manufacturer: Intel>(In the guided search select:)Multi-Core: Dual-Core>(In the guided search select:)Series: Core 2 Duo
All those processors are great at their jobs. I wouldn't choose any other dual-cores at the time-being.

It doesnt appear that this board can have a dual core chip. it sounds like youll need upgrade your board to get a faster chip.
