Have you tried resetting the unit by pressing the reset button (bottom right, beneath the faceplate) and holding it for 2 seconds?
According to the manual, error code 6 is when the stereo can't read the table of contents on the CD. This could be due to scratches along the inner tracks of the disc, an audio CD-R that was not closed or finished, or the disc is being inserted upside down. If the error code only appears for a single or few discs, chances are it's not an issue with the player, but the disc(s) themselves.

Unfortunately I thought this was the problem but discs have been inserted correctly, I bought a laser CD cleaning disc and tried it all to no avail. I understand when the power is shut off for instance when a recent diode had to be replaced by the dealer due to recall this causes the error 6 code which requires some type of input on the stereo to erase and allow CD's to be heard. Any other thoughts? thanks
yes I did try the reset button for even longer than 2 seconds and when the face plate was re-inserted and a CD was loaded after a couple of seconds and while small L like lights are running across the bottom of the faceplate as in trying to read the CD, error code six comes up. The cd does not have any scratches, was just cleaned and inserted properly. Any other thoughts? Thanks very much.
Thank you again for your time and comments.
